Goals
The children
The arts and cultural education projects which Cre8 sets up focus primarily on the children and teenagers who participate. The young people are easily reached through schools and cultural institutions and more than any other group, they are in need of information. Children in East Africa are the hope for the future in a society disrupted and demoralised by poverty, social and political instability and disease. They are however the most vulnerable group and it is therefore important to work with extreme care. That is why we place the accent on making a lasting and positive contribution to their futures, teaching the children (life) skills which can improve their situation.
Teachers and artists
Cre8 aims to establish a forum where teachers, artists and others who help realise the art projects can share their knowledge, experience, ideas and inspiration with colleagues from other cultures and working with other art forms. Cre8 also stimulates participating teachers and artists to apply elsewhere the experience they have gained. We train volunteers and others involved during the course of the activities and coach them afterwards Through extensive documentation and dissemination we aim to share what we have learned with others. Cre8 hopes in this way to create a ripple effect.
Lasting results
One of Cre8’s goals is to help the target group(s) to continue on their own after completion of a project. All kinds of initiatives like art classes, an educational theatre group or a web design class, can continue independently after initial support and guidance from the Cre8 team. Working with theatre, music, film and the visual arts can spark discussion and exchange of ideas. It is essential that children are given the chance to express themselves and to work with others towards a common goal: a quality production or exhibition. This increases their self-respect and appreciation of others.
