2009 and 2010: Amka! (Jukwaa la Vipaji/House of Talent)

AMKA!

The project in Tanzania has come to an end. It has been a great project, considering the fun the participating young people have had (and we too), the talents that have developed and the many people that we have reached. This was all possible thanks to the time and/or money that many people and funds have invested in this Cre8 project. A big thanks to everyone!

In June the fifty young people made a music-theatre show, exposition and film by the name AMKA! (Wake up!). Their story tells how they ended up on the streets, the problems they come across, the solutions they consider valuable, and how the community and government can help achieving these solutions. People from the audience were asked to ventilate their opinion on the story of the street children. Most of them were tolerant, and found that every street child should get a second change. It amazed everyone how the youngsters were able to transmit a very serious message in such a nice way. (continue reading ...)

2007: TripL'EX

Cre8 East Africa's second project started in December 2007 in Yala, Kenya and in Poeldijk, the Netherlands. We have been working on theatre productions based on the theme: 'how do I shape my future?'

The group of young people in Yala started by exchanging ideas with a group of contemporaries in the Netherlands about the theatre piece they were working on. This resulted in a production performed in December for the community which made use of various art forms such as drama, dance, music, rap and visual art. (continue reading ...)

2006: Okang Machielo

The First Cre8 East Africa project was a pilot that took place in August 2006 in Dunga, West Kenya. The themes central to this project were the environment, hygiene and health. The Dunganese children translated these themes into a theatre production and various other creative art forms.
Cre8 also worked with 5 primary schools in the Netherlands and Kenya to bring Africa to life for the Dutch children and vice versa.
